This Saturday, March 22, the Wende Museum invites you to an afternoon of discovery. We are presenting two special programs: a lesson on how to digitize your archives, with a chance to use our museum-quality scanning equipment; and a film on utopia and memory set in a Soviet ghost town.
Digitization Day: Learn how to preserve your history like a pro at the Wende Museum’s Digitization Day event! At noon there will be an introduction to digital preservation by our archival team, with tips on how to preserve your own personal and family archives. Beginning at noon, guests can also reserve time on our scanners throughout the afternoon to digitize their archival materials. Wende staff will be on hand to assist. Scanner slots are limited, so advance registration is required. Please bring a USB-A-compatible storage device to save your scans.
Katyusha: Film Screening & Director Q&A: Experience Katyusha, a hauntingly beautiful video installation by artist and filmmaker Stephen Hilyard, set in the abandoned Soviet showcase town of Pyramida. Katyusha explores memory, ideology, and the echoes of a utopian dream left behind in the Arctic. After the screening there will be a conversation with the director, beginning at 2 p.m.
Both events take place at the A-Frame Theater at the Glorya Kaufman Community Center
