Aki Salvador Wins 18th Annual CCUSD Spelling Bee – Culver City Crossroads

Aki Salvador stood tall and confidently spelled the word F-I-B-U-L-A to take home the 18th Annual Culver City Unified School District Spelling Bee title on February 20 at Robert Frost Auditorium. The fifth-grader from El Marino Language School finished atop 23 other spellers – four students from each of the district’s five elementary schools and Culver City Middle School competed.

Aki will advance to the Los Angeles County Spelling Bee, which will be held on March 19 at Almansor Court, 700 S. Almansor St., in Alhambra. The top two, grades 4-6, winners of the regional competition are sponsored by the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) to participate in the California State Elementary Spelling Bee in May. The overall winner is sponsored by LACOE to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, also in May. All students involved receive participation certificates and gift bags, with the top three spellers also receiving trophies.

Congratulations also to second-place finisher Amelia Warren, a seventh grader from Culver City Middle School; and Ece (AJ) Hacibeyoglu, a fourth grader from Farragut Elementary School.
