You are invited to journey through a tapestry of stories that connect the past, present, and future of the African diaspora as part of the CCUSD BFC Dramatic Production “Beyond the Times & Places.”
The February 19, 6:30 pm at the Robert Frost Auditorium, the production will pay tribute to the ancestors who paved the way for our freedom of expression, as well as to the modern leaders, artists, and thinkers who continue to inspire us. Through a blend of theater, music, poetry, and storytelling, the production will honor the rich legacy of those who came before us and reflects on the power of unity and forward movement.
You’ll experience dynamic scenes, including:
A moment in Jocelyn Bioh’s Jaja’s African Hair Braiding Shop, showcasing contemporary cultural connections.
A timeless monologue from Lorraine Hansberry’s iconic A Raisin in the Sun.
A moving musical interpretation of Rosa Sat by Barbara Alpert.
Soulful melodies from Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes’ Wake Up Everybody, featuring Teddy Pendergrass.
A heartfelt presentation of A Lunch in Ghana by teaching artist Latisha Jones.
A poetic performance of Maya Angelou’s stirring And Still I Rise.
A powerful scene from Anna Deavere’s Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992.
Ending with a loving homage to Pixar’s Soul, “Parting Ways” by Cody Chesnutt
This performance is a love letter to history, a celebration of Black creativity, and a call to action for all of us to stand together, uplift each other, and keep moving forward.
