USC All-American hurdler and jumper Johnny Brackins Jr. and All-American sprinter and jumper JC Stevenson have been named to the March 6 Watch List for The Bowerman, awarded annually to the nation’s top collegiate track and field athlete. The Bowerman Watch List was announced by the USTFCCCA (U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) today (March 6).
Brackins Jr., who has been on all three of the Bowerman Award Watch Lists this year, is coming off winning the 60m hurdles and long jump titles at the 2025 Big Ten Indoor Track & Field Championships. He won the 60m hurdles with a meet-record time of 7.49 and the long jump title with a jump of 26-2.75 (7.99m).
The senior Brackins Jr. leads all NCAA hurdlers with a time of 7.43 which he ran in winning the 2025 USATF 60m hurdles title on Feb. 22. That time is the USC record and makes Brackins Jr. the No. 4 men’s collegiate 60m hurdles performer of all-time, trailing only Grant Holloway (7.35, Florida), Trey Cunningham (7.38, Florida State) and Daniel Roberts (7.41, Kentucky). The native of Kansas City, Mo. also ranks No. 4 on the 2025 NCAA long jump list.
Stevenson is on the Bowerman Award Watch List for the first time. He won the 60m dash title at the 2025 Big Ten Indoor Championships with a time of 6.56. The junior from Temecula, Calif. also placed third in the long jump with a leap of 25-2.50 (7.68m) at the Big Ten Indoor Championships.
Earlier in the indoor season Stevenson tied the USC 60 dash record with a time of 6.50, which converted due to altitude (6.52) ranks third on the NCAA descending order list. Stevenson also leads all NCAA jumpers during the indoor season with a best leap of 26-9.75 (8.17m). That jump ranks third on USC’s all-time indoor long jump list.
The Bowerman is bestowed to collegiate track & field’s top male and female athlete for the year. The Bowerman Advisory Board, and ultimately, The Bowerman Voters, are instructed to consider performances inclusively from the collegiate indoor track & field and outdoor track & field seasons only. The current collective track & field season began on November 29, 2024 and will end on June 14, 2025.
The Bowerman’s next watch list will be announced on March 27 for the men and on March 26 for the women.
