CCUSD Recommits to Campuses as Safe Zones – Culver City Crossroads

The Culver City Unified School Board Meeting on December 17, 2024 was an echo of the meeting of Nov. 22, 2016. The stark fact of needing to pass a resolution for the safety of the students is also a reminder that our schools have faced these challenges before.

From the Board, “In Item 9.2, the Board unanimously adopted a resolution designating Culver City Unified School District Campuses as Safe Zones and Resource Centers for Students and Families. The resolution was drafted in anticipation of the incoming Federal Administration’s immigration enforcement and proposed policies to dissolve public agencies, erode the autonomy of public institutions including public schools, and roll back progress for numerous communities that CCUSD serves every day has created a climate of heightened fear and anxiety for many CCUSD students, staff, and their families, including immigrants, women, non-binary, LGBTQ+, working class, and people living at or below the poverty line. The District’s intent is to keep schools focused on teaching and learning so that students and families know they have a safe space where they belong so they can concentrate on learning, their extracurriculars, camaraderie, and friendships.”

The complete resolution can be read here: 2024-2025 Resolution No. 21 – Success for All Means Safety for All: Culver City Unified School District as Safe Zones and Resource Centers for Students and Families.
