CCUSD Superintendent Search Looks at Timeline, Community Input – Culver City Crossroads

In the eyes of CCUSD’s School Board President Triston Ezidore, selecting Culver City Unifed’s next superintendent is “a major milestone for the future of the district. It’s an opportunity to align around our shared values and center community voice in the process.”

The unexpected retirement of current Superintendent Dr. Brian Lucas, who is stepping down because of a family situation, puts the school board into gear to find a replacement. In California, a superintendent of schools typically serves for three to four years. It’s a demanding position, and new hires almost always come from out of the area.

Ezidore offered “I’m excited to share that the Board of Education has officially adopted the ambitious timeline for our superintendent search. We are intentionally engaging with our full community—including labor partners, affinity groups, parents, students, staff, and residents—to gather input on the characteristics and values they want to see in Culver City USD’s next leader.”

Here’s a snapshot of key milestones:
Early May – Community Engagement: Consultants send out an online survey and meet with community members to gather feedback on the qualities desired in the next superintendent.
April–May – Development of recruitment materials.
May 12 & 19 – Advertisements published in EdCal and posted online.
June 2 at 5:00 PM – Application Deadline
Week of June 9 – Board reviews applications and selects interview candidates. (Closed Session)
June 14 – Special Board Meeting: Candidate Interviews; finalists selected. (Closed Session)
Mid-June – Final selection and validation.
June 24 – Regular Meeting: Board takes action on the superintendent contract.
July 1, 2025 – New superintendent begins (or as mutually agreed).

Ezidore stated “We hope to hear thoughtful input from the community about the qualities and priorities they want to see in our next superintendent. The Board of Education values sees public engagement as essential to making a decision that reflects the needs and hopes of the entire district.”
