Honoring Ruby Bridges with Walk to School Day – Safe Routes to School Art/Essay Contest – Culver City Crossroads

Safe Routes to School is pleased to announce their first annual Ruby Bridges Art and Essay Contest to celebrate Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day! This year’s theme will be “Step up for courage and diversity.“

On November 14, 1960, Ruby Bridges made history by becoming the first African American student to attend an all-white elementary school in the South. Her courage at just six years old helped pave the way for racial integration in schools.

Honor Ruby’s bravery by participating in Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day on  November 14 by wearing white and walking to school.

Essay and artwork must be submitted buy Friday October 25, 2024.

All grades welcome! Grade level prizes to be awarded, including cash prizes and gift bags courtesy of the Wende Museum. The Gallery Premier will take place on November 8, at the Robert Frost Auditorium.

Let’s walk toward a brighter future for all children.
