The Los Angeles Kings have won nine out of 11 games since March 8, and one of their most impressive wins was their 7-2 victory over the Boston Bruins last Sunday at Cryto.com Arena in downtown Los Angeles. One of the highlights of that game was the play of left winger Warren Foegele and his milestone accomplishments.
Foegele, near the end of the first period, scored a goal giving him 20 goals in two consecutive seasons and 100 goals for his NHL career. This goal came in his 500th career game, joining Alex Tuch, Jared McCann, Nikolaj Ehlers, Dylan Larkin and Leon Draisaitl as the only forwards selected in the 2014 NHL Draft to score a goal in their 500th NHL game.
“It’s pretty special,” Foegele said. “I think when you really think about it, it comes with so many people that have helped me kind of reach this milestone. Behind every player, there’s a lot of special people that help us get into this position, and it’s pretty cool to sit back and reflect.”
After the game, coach Jim Hiller spoke about Foegele reaching three separate milestones in the game. “He should buy a lottery ticket tonight after that, right. Hiller said. “I knew he had 100 goals, I knew he had 500 games. He’s been excellent, he really has, and he’s been excellent and getting better, so that’s really where I’m encouraged. He had a couple tracks (defensive plays) tonight too, where he came back, broke plays up. He’s just a really good player.”
Foegele also mentioned after the game that the Kings are a defensive-minded team, and that is one of the main reasons why they have been experiencing success during the last few weeks. Good defensive teams win games. The Kings are currently in second place in the Pacific Division behind first place Las Vegas with a record of 40-22-9.
The Kings hope to keep winning during their three-game home stand that starts on Saturday against Toronto Maple Leafs at 4 p.m. On Sunday they face the San Jose Sharks at 7 p.m. and they finish the home stand against the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday, April 1, at 7:30 p.m. at Crypto.com Arena.
