With Monday’s 5-3 win over Team Finland, LA Kings veteran defenseman Drew Doughty and his Canadian team advance to Thursday’s 4 Nations championship game in Boston versus Team USA. This is an opportunity for Canada to avenge their previous loss to USA. The championship game will be played at TD Garden in Massachusetts, a home game for the Americans.
That win for the Canadians on Monday was the round-robin finale which ended that phase of the tournament, giving them a 2-1-0 record and five points in the standings with a second-place finish behind first-place USA.
Doughty made an appearance in all three games during round-robin play, gathering up an assist on Connor McDavid’s goal in Saturday’s 3-1 loss to USA. He averaged 19:38 minutes on-ice time with an even rating for all three games.
In the last six tournaments Doughty has played for Team Canada, he’s made it to the gold-medal game now in all six. He’s been triumphant in four of the first five, including gold medals at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey, as well as at the Olympic Winter Games in 2010 and 2014.
Doughty also made it to the gold-medal game at the 2009 IIHF World Championships, where Team Canada fell short by a goal versus Team Russia. He also well in the 2008 World Juniors, when he and his teammates won gold in overtime versus Sweden, on the way to being named as the tournament’s best defenseman.
