RECOMMENDATION

 

Staff recommends that the Equity and Human Relations Advisory Committee (EHRAC) receive a report from the Courageous Conversations Ad Hoc Subcommittee; and (2) discuss and consider approval of the report’s recommendations; and (3) if so desired, determine next steps; and (4) provide feedback and/or recommendations to staff as deemed appropriate.

 

 

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

 

As a part of the FY 2023/2024 work plan; the Difficult Conversations- Community Conversation event is one of a two-part series. Difficult Conversations is designed to help facilitate the education and practice of critical courageous conversation skills so that our community members can engage in civil discourse on topics impacting equity and human relations in Culver City.

 

In the July 25, 2023, Regular Meeting in discussions revolving around the work plan and proposed consolidation of event the “Community Conversations - Difficult Conversations” was selected by consensus to move forward.

 

At the August 22, 2023, Special Meeting the Courageous Conversations Ad Hoc Subcommittee was created, and members appointed thereto.

 

At the September 26, 2023, Special Meeting consensus was achieved to hear a report from the Courageous Conversations Ad Hoc Subcommittee.

 

 

FISCAL ANALYSIS

 

Proposed potential fiscal impact includes the following for the event production: Approximately $1,000.00 for the Speaker, approximately $100.00 for snacks for the event. For a total of approximately $1,100.00 to produce the event.

 

In addition, there may be potential rental fees may be incurred for a facility outside of the City Facilities and event insurance fees TBD.
