RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration & Juneteenth Celebration Advisory Committee (Advisory Committee) (1) consider forming an Advisory Committee “2028 Summer Olympics Preparation Ad Hoc Subcommittee;” and (2) if desired, appoint two Committee Members to the newly formed Ad Hoc Subcommittee.
BACKGROUND/ DISCUSSION
At the July 17, 2023, Advisory Committee meeting, it was mentioned that the Cultural Affairs Commission, the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission and the City Council had created ad hoc subcommittees dedicated to preparing Culver City for the 2028 Summer Olympics, which are set to take place from Friday, July 14, 2028, to Sunday, July 30, 2028, in Los Angeles.
Advisory members agreed to agendize a discussion concerning the creation of an Advisory Committee 2028 Summer Olympics Preparation Ad Hoc Subcommittee. The purpose of the ad hoc subcommittee would be to work alongside the subcommittees created by City Council and City Commissions during any City planning for the 2028 Summer Olympics.
