This Saturday, April 26 from 2–4 p.m., join the Wende Museum at the Glorya Kaufman Community Center’s A-Frame Theater for THE DREAM & THE LIE, a new film by Albanian American artist Elena Dorfman. Drawing from the Albanian National Film Archive, Dorfman transforms the propaganda films of Enver Hoxha’s repressive government into a haunting triptych that explores nationalism, forced modernization, and the human cost of state control.
In today’s world, where the arts face increasing challenges under ideologically repressive governments, Dorfman’s film serves as a poignant reminder of the enduring power of artistic expression, and as a tribute to the artists who create compelling work despite severe restrictions.
The screening will be followed by a conversation between Elena Dorfman, the Wende’s chief curator and director of programming Joes Segal, and curatorial intern Dani Taylor, and a Q&A with the artist.
