USC Track & Field Wins Six Events During Strong Day At Battle At The Beach



Mauricette posts NCAA No. 2 hurdles time; Big marks for Erasmus (W-SP) and Broderick (M-DT)

Yougendy Mauricette won the men’s 400m hurdles, Ashley Erasmus won the women’s shot put and Racquil Broderick won the men’s discus throw with big marks and the Trojan women grabbed the top five places in the 100m dash to lead the Trojans at the 2025 Battle at the Beach at Jack Rose Track in Long Beach, Calif. today (April 4). In all, USC athletes won six events and captured second in eight other events during the Battle at the Beach today.

Sophomore Yougendy Mauricette won the men’s 400m hurdles with a PR and the No. 2 time among collegians this season of 50.35. Junior Lincoln Marschall placed fifth with a time of 53.52.

Freshman Ashley Erasmus won the women’s shot put competition with a best mark of 58-3.00 (17.75m). Her mark would have set the USC record in the event, if she hadn’t broken it at the Trojan Invitational with a mark of 58-5.75 (17.82m) on March 22. Sophomore Reese Garland took fourth in the shot put with a throw of 46-7.50 (14.21m).

Sophomore Racquil Broderick won the men’s discus throw competition with a best mark of 200-8 (61.17m). Freshman Shaiquan Dunn took fifth in the men’s discus throw with his season-best mark of 184-3 (56.17m) coming in the final round.

The USC women swept the top five spots in the 100m dash with senior Samirah Moody winning with a time of 11.03 (+3.8w), junior transfer Dajaz DeFrand taking second with a time of 11.08 (+3.8w), freshman Tiana Eyakpobeyan placing third with a time of 11.30 (+3.8w), junior Christine M. Mallard taking fourth with a time of 11.36 (+3.8w) and freshman Mia Brahe-Pedersen placing fifth with a time of 11.43 (+3.8w). Moody now ranks third and DeFrand fifth on the NCAA descending order list.

Junior transfer Karyssa Owens won the women’s hammer throw competition with a best mark of 196-4 (59.85m). Sophomore Jenna Gallaway took third with a best throw of 172-3 (52.50m).

Sophomore Nonah Waldron won the women’s 100m hurdles with a wind-aided best of 12.89 (2.3w), which bettered her fifth-place standing on the NCAA descending order list this season. Senior Jalaysiya Smith took third in the hurdles with a time of 13.28 (+2.3w) and freshman Falyn Lott finished ninth with a season-best time of 14.10 (+1.1).

The women’s 4x100m relay “B” team of freshman Olivia Pace, freshman Mia Brahe-Pedersen, freshman Avery Lewis and sophomore Jordan Washington won with a time of 44.20. The “A” team of senior Samirah Moody, junior transfer Dajaz DeFrand, sophomore Madison Whyte and freshman Brianna Selby did not finish due to a bad exchange.

Dunn placed second in the men’s shot put with a PR of 60-2.00 (18.34m). Freshman Preston Beery placed fourth in the shot put with a mark of 52-10.25 (16.11m) and freshman Kaden Garland took fifth with a throw of 51-9.75 (15.79m).

Lott placed second in the women’s long jump with a best leap of 20-0.50/6.11m (+1.5). The fellow freshman Lewis placed third in the long jump with a mark of 19-8.75/6.01m (+2.5w) and sophomore Alyssa Hope placed fourth with a best jump of 19-8.00/5.99 (+1.7).

Reese Garland took second in the women’s discus throw with a season-best throw of 178-1 (54.30m). Erasmus took third in the discus throw with a mark of 173-8 (52.94m) and Owens placed fourth with a throw of 165-5 (50.43m).

Senior Travis Williams placed second in the men’s 100m dash with a time of 10.18 (+3.3w).

Senior transfer Brithton Senior took second in the men’s 110m hurdles with a wind-aided time of 13.69 (+3.4w).

Sophomore Jada Gatlin placed second in the women’s triple jump with a wind-aided best leap of 41-2.50/12.56m (+2.1w). Junior Lauren Reed placed fifth in the triple jump with a best jump of 39-3.75/11.98m (+0.4) and senior Ahnyx Bush placed sixth with a best jump of 38-11.75/11.88 (+1.3).

Freshman Gabriel Castillo placed second in the men’s 3000m race with a time of 9:15.19.

Graduate transfer Roberto Ruelas placed second in the men’s 1500m race with a PR of 3:54.04 and graduate student Jack Carter placed third with a PR of 3:54.18. Carter set his previous 1500m best of 3:54.53 at the same meet three years ago. Graduate transfer Alfredo Reina Corona placed fifth with a time of 4:03.66 and junior Vishnu Swaminathan finished sixth with a time of 4:11.32.

Junior Elias Gerald took third in the men’s long jump with a wind-aided leap of 23-8.25/7.22m (+2.1w).

Mallard placed third in the women’s 200m with a season-best time of 23.03 (+2.2w). Junior Yemi John took fourth in the 200m with a time of 23.15 (+4.0w), freshman Oliva Pace was fifth with a time of 23.33 (+4.0w) and freshman Maira Scott was ninth with a time of 23.82 (+2.2w).

Junior Jaelen Knox placed fourth in the men’s 400m race with a time of 47.61.

Sophomore transfer Isabella Duarte placed fourth in the women’s 800m with a time of 2:13.95 and sophomore Angelina Vasquez placed eighth with a time of 2:22.19.

Sophomore Jacob Andrews placed fifth in the men’s 200m dash with a time of 21.03 (+2.2w).

Kaden Garland placed fifth in the men’s hammer throw with a best mark of 179-2 (54.62m). All five of his legal throws went at least 174 feet.

Redshirt junior Jacqueline Duarte placed seventh in the women’s 3000m race with a time of 11.22.80.

Graduate transfer Jake Heydon placed eighth in the men’s javelin throw with his final mark of 186-4 (56.79).

Several of the USC throwers will compete tomorrow at the Triton Invitational in La Jolla, Calif. The rest of the USC track and field team will be back in action next week at the Texas A&M 44 Farms Team Invitational in College Station, Texas on April 11-12.
