From Caracas to Culver City
I was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela, in one of the city's poorest neighbourhoods. At sixteen I came to the United States alone, determined to build a better life.
Without family or resources, I worked and studied until I had earned two PhDs. The path was not easy. I have experienced homelessness, poverty and exhaustion firsthand, and I relied on public transit, free school lunch and affordable housing as a renter for more than two decades.
It took nearly twenty years of work to become a homeowner. I know what it means to struggle, to persevere, and to succeed.
I have faced and overcome racial discrimination, and today I am a proud business owner in this city. I'm committed to making sure everyone here has the same opportunity to thrive — which starts with a city government people can actually understand and hold to account.
