RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council (1) discuss Culver City’s support of women and girls, including the potential creation of a formal Commission, Board, or Committee; and (2) if desired, provide direction to the City Manager as deemed appropriate.

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

At the June 10, 2024, City Council Meeting, the City Council and staff engaged in a wide-ranging discussion regarding the potential formation of a new Commission, Board, or Committee (CBC) focused on Women and Girls in Culver City (Attachment). At that meeting staff and some Council Members expressed capacity concerns, including staff time and resources required to support a new CBC, and whether reprioritization of current initiatives is possible. A suggestion was made that the existing Equity and Human Relations Advisory Committee (EHRAC) could take on the issue. There was no consensus on whether to form a new CBC.

At the April 14, 2025, City Council Meeting, City Council majority consensus was achieved to agendize the following item, as stated in the Approved Meeting Minutes:

“Discussion of how Culver City is investing in women and girls with ways to evaluate processes and supports for women and girls in leadership, including the possibility of creating a CBC.”

The City Council is requested to discuss this topic and, if desired, provide direction to staff.

FISCAL ANALYSIS

There are no fiscal impacts for the City Council to discuss how Culver City supports women and girls. The creation of a CBC would have a fiscal impact and would need further evaluation by staff.
