RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) Commission receive and file an update about the hours of the paddle tennis courts located at Elenda St. and Culver Blvd.
BACKGROUND/ DISCUSSION
During the PRCS Commission Regular Meeting on June 3, 2025, the PRCS Commission requested an update from staff about the hours of operation for the paddle tennis courts located at the intersection of Elenda St. and Culver Blvd.
The original hours for the paddle tennis courts were 8:00 AM-10:00 PM Monday-Friday. However, at that time PRCS received many noise complaints from the neighbors living around the paddle tennis courts. PRCS began to research various techniques to dampen the sound caused by paddle tennis and pickleball. As pickleball grew in popularity, the noise complaints from the neighbors increased. In 2024, PRCS changed the hours of the court to 9:00 AM-9:00 PM Monday through Friday in order to allow for quiet hours.
In December 2024, Pacific Sound Patrol installed sound proofing panels along the fences at the paddle tennis courts. Based on the feedback from the community, the hours have been updated to be 8:30 AM-9:00 PM Monday-Friday.
For Saturday and Sunday, the courts are open.
