RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration & Juneteenth Celebration Advisory Committee receive and file an evaluation from the Committee Members concerning the Martin Luther King Jr. Event that took place on January 17, 2026.

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

The Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration and Juneteenth Celebration Advisory Committee’s (Advisory Committee) bylaws, Section 5, identify the types of meetings the Advisory Committee may hold. A Post-Event Meeting is defined as the meeting held at the next regularly scheduled meeting following the conclusion of each event. During this meeting, the Advisory Committee may receive written reports, discuss issues encountered during the event, and consider proposals for improvements to future events.

Consistent with this provision, the Advisory Committee has requested that a dedicated post-event evaluation where they can share their assessments be included following each event. This discussion may include, but is not limited to, an assessment of pre-event planning, event execution, and the overall day-of experience, allowing the Advisory Committee to evaluate the event’s success and identify areas for improvement.
